Why Cutting Corners on Your Boiler Installation Could Cost You More Than You Think
When it comes to installing a new boiler, it’s easy to be swayed by the cheapest quote. But as the old saying goes, you get what you pay for—and in the world of heating systems, that couldn’t be more true.
Recently, we were called out to inspect a boiler that had been installed by another company, and unfortunately, what we found was a long list of problems that not only compromised the system’s performance, but also rendered the manufacturer’s warranty completely void.
What Went Wrong?
Here’s just a snapshot of the issues we identified:
Incorrect gas pipe size – This can restrict gas flow, affecting boiler performance and safety.
Wrong condensate pipe installation – An essential part of a condensing boiler, this was incorrectly fitted, risking leaks and water damage.
No magnetic filter – This helps protect your boiler from sludge and debris. Without one, your system is far more prone to breakdowns.
Old, leaking filling loop – A basic component that was clearly not replaced during the install, creating an unnecessary risk of leakage.
Boiler plugged into a standard socket – Current regulations require boilers to be hardwired in; using a plug is no longer allowed.
No shock arrestor – Important for protecting against water hammer and pressure surges, especially in homes with high water pressure.
Any one of these faults would be concerning—but together, they add up to a dangerous, inefficient, and non-compliant installation.
Why It Matters
While the system appeared to be working, these hidden flaws could have led to long-term issues: higher energy bills, safety risks, early breakdowns, and—most critically—no backup from the manufacturer when things go wrong.
A poorly installed boiler doesn’t just underperform. It puts your home and family at risk.
The Home Heating Systems Standard
Now, contrast that with a boiler installed by our team.
At Home Heating Systems, every installation is carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer and built to meet (or exceed) the latest industry regulations. We install with care, precision, and long-term performance in mind. Our pipework is neat, our components are high-quality, and we make sure every system is protected by its full manufacturer warranty—often up to 12 years.
What Should You Look for in a Heating Company?
When choosing a company to install or replace your boiler, here are a few must-dos:
✅ Check their accreditations – Are they Gas Safe registered? Are they approved partners with trusted manufacturers?
✅ Read their reviews – Past customer experiences speak volumes.
✅ Ask what’s included – Do they provide filters, controls, aftercare, and warranty registration as standard?
A proper boiler installation isn’t just about appearances—it’s about safety, performance, and peace of mind.
